My Story.

I sometimes think my life really began when I moved from Sydney to the beautiful North Coast of New South Wales in September 1991.

I had just broken up with my boyfriend of 3 years and was heartbroken. I really didn't want to be in the same area and see him out with other girls, so I went to work, gave my notice, had a garage sale and left all in a week.

I had a friend in Tweed Heads so I arrived on her doorstep with a removal van and car load of my most treasured possessions.

I wouldn't say the move was easy. I left all my friends behind and for a while I was very lonely.

I had worked in Sydney for many years in the motor trade, starting out as a spare parts delivery driver, progressing into the accounting section where I loved the book work and running the office. I was a real tom -boy back then; jeans, motor bikes and I even raced a little MGB car I had.

Little did I know back then what was lying deep inside me, but this move was to bring it to the surface..how exciting!

After my move north, I started a book shop, knowing absolutely nothing about books and after six months in a little sleepy beach side village I closed it down and went on social security benefits. Gee now that was hard, trying to pay rent and pay off my car loan. Things were very tight in those days, but I survived.

Well after a little while on the benefits I was bored, and wanted to do something to make a living as employment was low in this area.

I had met some people and among this new found set of friends was a girl called Debbie, but she couldn't come out and play or go to the beach as she was always sewing..how boring I thought at the time.

Debbie opened a shop in Tweed Heads. For fun I said  I might make some things for her shop as I had a sewing machine, so I bought some calico fabric, made some summer dresses and doona covers. Debbie taught me how to tie dye and now the fun was starting!!

I really wanted an overlocker sewing machine, but it was way out of my price range. One night I was at my local snooker club playing in a competition and was beaten in the first round. I went to get a drink and put 20 cents in a poker machine and won $400.00. I was so excited as you can well imagine! So the next day I was the proud owner of an brand new overlocker sewing machine and I didn't even know about coincidences back then.

I had the best time with my new machine, playing around with all sorts of creative ideas and eventually found my way into velvet & lace  medieval, gothic gypsy clothing designs.

Then off to market I would go with my new boyfriend Gary. We loved the markets, it was like a Sunday picnic in the park except that, if you were lucky, you made some money as well. These were struggling times sewing all week and markets on the weekend, packing the car, unpacking the car, rain, wind and all sorts of things but also so much fun!

Over time I grew into this little home business with a passion, I loved the creativity and being able to make a small living. Of course I had my new boyfriend Gary who looked after me. He worked in aged care as a maintenance supervisor, he became my best friend and still is today.

There was a time when I did markets every weekend, I had a rep who sold my designs to shops on the East Coast, I had a rep who sold to shops in Melbourne area and I had some shops I dealt with personally.

Then GST was introduced and that was the beginning of the end, many of the shops closed down and that side of business started to die off, all of a sudden it just stopped. I had one customer left and as the market had died off as well, I gave it all a rest.

When One Door Shuts Another Door Opens

Then some strange coincidences passed by and I went on a spiritual awareness quest. All alone at home by myself I studied and read. What an experience this turned out to be. For two years I read all day, many, many books. The Bible, Koran, Buddhist teaching, Edgar Cayce books on dreams, I got a little into Physics and Science. Being inspired in my dreams as to what area I need to research next. I used to call it night school as I would dream off and meet people and talk about things like a school of ancient wisdom and philosophy. It was like a giant jigsaw puzzle of information that would later become an epiphany and the penny would drop.

I only read some of the latest new age books and when I did I could see they had been inspired from the same sources I had researched. I had many interesting experiences- lucid dreams, psychic perceptions opening awareness things I didn't even know existed. Somehow when all I did was 'ask', doors were opening everywhere for me and teaching me. The more I learnt the more I realised I didn't know anything, that there was no end to knowledge and in a thousand life times you would still be learning.

What a great time this was, until one day I knew it was done; I didn't want to read anymore. I felt I had reached a point where I had what I needed for the next chapter in my life's journey and all I had to do now was remember the principals of all the great masters. Love was it!  Kindness to all living things including yourself became my basic philosophy.

I wanted to sew again, but what to do?....well ask! isn't that what they say to do in a mystical spiritual sense .

So I asked, and not 24 hours later I had my answer. I had rung a friend about a digital camera as I was thinking of buying one, he arrived with his camera for me to play with. That same afternoon the lady next door came in for a visit and mentioned e -bay. She signed me up, I took a photo of a few things I had and that was that..off it all went again and from that day to this I haven't stopped!

Now I have my own web site shops where I can express my creative energy and make people happy.

Today Gary and I live in our own house, it's a wooden emerald green house and inside is all fairy pink (poor Gary) I found my emerald-fairy within myself and I use my imagination to live as best I can my fairy tale life.

I hope you enjoyed my story
